Windows 10’s search function has seen some problems in the past and recent update has caused it to malfunction to look almost like the PC has been infected by malware.

Recent Windows 10’s update turned users heads – because it looks like malware.

Some users reported that after clicking on the Start menu and typing something to search a pop up screen shows up with text ‘This is taking too long to load’ with ‘Refresh’ button. Additionally a string of characters shows up in the right bottom corner, presumably some kind of installation version. That is the suspicious thing users are reporting that looks like it’s the result of malware.

Only some users are affected by this problem – these incidents are being linked to the installation of the latest update (KB4550945) but some users who have not installed it also encountered the issue.

Clicking on the ‘Refresh’ button will direct user back to normal looking screen and search results but the flaw will appear again.

To fix the issue:

  • uninstall that particular update
  • install all the latest updates for Windows 10 (some report it gets rid of this error)
