Over the last month many Nintendo users have reported unauthorized use of their Nintendo accounts. The reason for this is still not known as of this moment.

Online Nintendo users have been reporting receiving unauthorized login notifications. The problems seems to be on the rise.

Many of the hijacked accounts have problems with unauthorized transactions – they had PayPal accounts connected to their Nintendo accounts and fraudsters are using these to make payments in many games such as Fortnite.

For now the reason for these account breaches is still not known. There is a hypothesis that it may be connected to the use of the Nintendo Network ID Service but researchers are not sure.

Nintendo started to urge the users to:

  • have strong passwords,
  • turn on Two-Factor Authentication.
