Brave browser which claims to be more focused on the privacy of its users has been directing users to cryptocurrency sites via affiliate links which gains the company profits.
Brave browser has been has been built on the notion that ads should be optional to users and not obligatory and the user privacy is very important.
It has violated these rules by directing users via affiliate links to cryptocurrency websites.
Twitter member discovered that when somebody enters popular cryptocurrency exchange site Binance the Brave browser directs the user via an affiliate link.
If the user makes any purchase on this website this browser will receive a bonus for referral.
Furthermore, research by other Twitter users showed that different websites were also opened via affiliate links, like Coinbase, Ledger, Trezor.
Brave CEO issued an apology and justified its actions that the company was just “trying to build a viable business” and that that strategy was used to supplement the income.
CEO claimed that it did not reveal any user data to those cryptocurrency websites and that this was not actively concealed.
